Project: OHS Connect Extranet and Collaboration Microsoft Office SharePoint Solution
Date: 1st quarter, 2010
The Occupational Health and Safety Agency for Healthcare (OHSAH) in British Columbia is a provincial occupational health and safety agency for the healthcare sector. OHSAH’s goal is to reduce workplace injuries and illness in healthcare workers and return injured workers back to the job quickly and safety. To support organizational goals and initiatives, OHSAH required an extranet and collaborative portal. The site needed to provide an up-to-date, searchable database of OHS education and training materials, policies, procedures, programs, research projects and other resources aimed at preventing and reducing injury and illness in healthcare workers throughout BC. The three main objectives of the portal are to: (1) Provide a coordinated Web portal for stakeholders to register and update their OHS initiatives and educational resources; (2) Reduce duplication of effort and increase collaborative development of new OHS initiatives and educational resources in BC healthcare; and (3) Provide a searchable online database of OHS initiatives to assist stakeholders in planning, coordination, and evaluation. Working with Microsoft Gold Certified Partner Softlanding Network Solutions Inc., an advanced and sophisticated solution was implemented, incorporating Microsoft Office SharePoint® Server 2007 as an extranet and collaboration platform and ISA server as an application layer firewall and publishing system. >> More Details..
Knowledge Network - Burnaby, British Columbia
Knowledge Network increases productivity and enhances communication with new Exchange based messaging infrastructure.
Project: First Class to Exchange Migration
Date: 2nd quarter, 2009
The Knowledge Network is BC's public educational media service. To improve operational efficiency, the Knowledge Network wanted to provide their users with a more collaborative messaging experience. In addition to adding shared calendaring and tasks to their messaging options they required a system that integrated easier with 3rd party products such as the Blackberry Enterprise Server. Through Softlanding's partnership with the Seven Group, Softlanding assisted the Knowledge Network in migrating from a First Class based messaging system to a Microsoft Exchange based messaging system. The new messaging system provided the type of collaborative experience they were looking for and provided easier integration with supporting 3rd party applications. The challenge and noteworthy aspect of this project centered around the lack of available migration tools. The Knowledge Network required that both Inbox and Sent items be migrated to the new system. Softlanding added value by writing a custom console-based IMAP application that captured Sent items and injected them into the user's Exchange Mailbox. The benefit to the Knowledge Network was that they were able to maintain messaging continuity through the retention of all relevant email from the old system and improve productivity by leveraging the collaborative features and industry support of the new system.

Project: SQL Disaster Recovery Solution
Date: 1st quarter, 2009
The Christian Labour Association of Canada, or CLAC, is one of this country’s largest independent trade unions. Both a union and a confederation of local unions, CLAC represents workers in just about every type of workplace. To better support it's members, the CLAC were looking for a cost effective disaster recovery solution to improve the reliability and availability of Unionware, their critical line of business union membership system. Through Softlanding's partnership with the Seven Group, Softlanding assisted the CLAC by outlining the SQL disaster recovery options available and aligning their requirements with the best solution. Softlanding implemented a cost effective solution disaster recovery solution which utiilzes SQL logging shipping providing data synchronization between it's Mississauga and Edmonton sites. As part of this engagement, Softlanding wrote a custom SQL process document, including SQL failover instructions, so that in the event of a failure or disaster of the primary site or server disruption in access to Unionware application would be minimized.
